Berry Rallies Past Messiah, Falcons Drop Second-Straight

St. Pete, FL - Berry College used a 13-0 run in the second-half to overcome a 10-point deficit en route to a 59-53 win over Messiah College on Saturday. The loss was the Falcons' second in as many days at the St. Pete's Classic in St. Pete, Florida.

Sienna Wisse led Messiah with 19 points, and Gillian Glackin scored 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Messiah got off to fast start in the second-half, and went up 41-27 on a driving finish by Wisse with 14:56 to play. A few minutes later, at the 10:19 mark, Glackin's finish in the paint gave the Falcons a 47-37 lead.

But then the Vikings went on a game-changing run. From the 8:47 mark to the 5:23 mark they scored 13-straight points to go up 50-47. Messiah missed five-straight shots and turned the ball over three times during the Vikings' streak, but finally ended their run with a bucket from Wisse with just over five minutes to play.

In the final minutes the Falcons managed to stay close, but they never got closer than a two-point deficit. Berry even missed two of four free-throws in the final 48 seconds, but Messiah could not take advantage as the clock soon ran out.

The Falcons poor shooting performance was the culprit, as they shot just 21-70 (30%) from the field and just 3-18 (17%) from the three-point line. They only turned the ball over 13 times, and they even outscored the Vikings 26-12 in the paint and 17-10 on second chance points.

Hannah Brown scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds, and Wisse added five assists and four steals to her team-high point total.

Three players scored in double-figures for Berry, led by Chanlir Segarra's 20 points. Megan Casey scored just two points, but grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in a strong showing on the interior.

Berry moved to 8-3 with the win, while Messiah dropped to 5-6.

The Falcons play again next year, when they host Alvernia University on Jan. 3 at 3:00 p.m.
