Hilton Head, SC - The men's tennis team is looking to made the most of their trip south as they compete in the sunshine over spring break. Follow all the action here!

Tuesday, Mar. 18
The team suffered a tight 4-5 loss to Goucher College Tuesday in their opening Spring Break match. The Falcons were scheduled to play the University of Scranton on Monday, but rainy weather forced the teams to cancel. Despite the favorable forecast and strong doubles play, the Falcons were unable to get past the Gophers.

In doubles action, Pete Shuck and Zach Brunner picked up a solid 9-7 win, while Dustin Innerst and Mike Kovacs got the 8-5 victory.

Four Falcons took their opponents to three sets in singles play, but it was Devin Esch and Innerst who prevailed. No. 5 Esch won the first and third set en route to the 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Pat Murnin. Innerst overtook Goucher's John Bescoby at No. 6 (6-4, 0-6, 10-7).

Shuck also worked through three-setters, but wasn't as successful. At No. 3 Shuck won the first set (6-3), but was overtaken in the second and third sets by Midori Fujitani (1-6, 2-6, respectively). 

Wednesday, Mar. 19
The men earned a close 6-3 win over FDU-Florham thanks in large part to five victories in their singles matches. Though most of the sets were close, the Falcons controlled almost every contest. Michael Brookhart was pushed to a 7-5, 6-3 win and Dustin Innerst earned a huge 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) decision in the number six spot to seal momentum.
 
In the doubles matches Pete Shuck and Zach Brunner earned an 8-5 decision to contribute to the final tally.

Thursday, Mar. 20
Messiah men's tennis fell to 1-2 overall today with a loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 9-0. The Falcons were blanked in the first two doubles matches and lost the third 8-1.

In singles action, UW-Eau Claire overwhelmed Messiah without dropping more than two games in each of their sets. Michael Brookhart and Devin Esch each won three total games in their matches.

Friday, Mar. 21
The Falcons fell to 1-3 for their spring break trip with a 7-2 loss this morning to Georgetown College (Ky.). The two match wins for Messiah came by way of default becuase Georgetown did not provide an opponent for those matches. One of those default wins was the No. 6 singles match, the other was the No. 3 doubles match.

Christopher Brittingham won the only set of the day for the Falcons against Josh Clay. Brittingham lost the first set 6-0 but came back to win the second 6-4. In the third-set tiebreak, Clay defeated Brittingham 10-4.

The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 26, when they travel to Juniata College before starting conference play.
