XML Box Score Annville, PA – Messiah College fell behind early and couldn't get all the way back in an 11-8 loss to Lebanon Valley on a rainy game on the road.
Lizzy Keeney and
Brooke Gamble each scored three times for the Falcons in the losing effort. Keeney added five draw controls while
Sarah Dolan collected nine saves in the cage.
The Dutchmen scored three-straight goals in the first period to break an early 1-1 tie and go up 4-1. Both
Madi Brunk and Keeney then tallied to trim the deficit to a single goal, but Lebanon Valley scored with just 10 seconds left before intermission for a 5-3 lead.
The Falcons started the second period in loud fashion, with back-to-back goals by Gamble tying the game with under 25 minutes to play. But the Dutchmen responded with two of their own to again take a two-goal lead.
Keeney's third goal of the contest cut the Falcons deficit to 7-6, but Lebanon Valley then received four tallies from four different players to go up 11-6. Messiah did score twice in the final four minutes but it wasn't enough to get all the way back.
The loss dropped Messiah to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference. Lebanon Valley moved to 9-2 overall, including 3-0 in the conference.
Shelby Morris shined bright for the Dutchmen on the rainy day; the goalie collected 14 saves on the Falcons' 25 shots. The game was also a bit sloppy for both teams as they combined for 42 turnovers (Messiah, 22).
The Falcons will next play on Wednesday, Apr. 2 against Lycoming College. The game will be on Messiah's Anderson Field and will start at 4:00 p.m.
