Women's Tennis Wins Big Over Hood

Frederick, MD - The Messiah women opened their Commonwealth Conference slate this afternoon by defeating Hood College 9-0 behind four shutout victories. Today marks the first game played in the spring season outside of thier matches in Hilton Head, S.C., for spring break.

Ashli Livermore, Eileen Barker, and Sydney Schandel all won their singles matches without giving up a game to thier opponents. The fourth shutout victory came in the No. 2 doubles match with Livermore and Jennifer Kitlan paired up.

Michelle Curtis collected one shutout set in her singles match, winning 6-0, 6-1. Erin Ipsen won her match with sets of 6-3 and 6-2, while Kitlan won in the No. 3 slot with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Ipsen and Barker doubled up their opponents in the No. 1 singles spot, coming away with an 8-4 victory. In the No. 3 doubles, Curtis and Hanna Lazio gave up one game in an 8-1 win. The overall win improves upon last year's 7-2 victory, also played in Frederick.

The Falcons improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the Conference with the win and the Blazers fell to 2-5 on the year with the loss. Messiah will next play at Albright College this Saturday, Apr. 5.
