XML Box Score 1 | XML Box Score 2 Frederick, MD – Messiah College traveled down to Hood College today and swept a double-header, 13-1 and 4-2.

Game One

After playing through a scoreless first inning, the Falcons exploded to score nine runs across the second and third innings. Messiah collected just four hits in the second frame but a host of errors by Hood contributed to five runs crossing the plate. In the third inning the Falcons collected another three hits and benefitted from three-straight errors on the Blazers' infield to build their lead to 9-0.

In the fifth inning Amanda Jones (single) and Courtney Allen (double) knocked back-to-back RBI hits to start a four-run rally that put Messiah up 13-0. Hood scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth as the game ended with the third out.

Sara McKee pitched all five innings for Messiah and allowed just three hits, the single run, and no walks. She struck out three batters and faced just 18 total batters.

Jones finished with three of the Falcons' 12 hits.

Game Two

The Falcons' second game with Hood looked different on the scoreboard, though Messiah came away with another victory. This time, timely hitting the later innings solidified a 4-2 win.

In the first inning Krista Ammon hit a sac fly to score Brooke Pompeo and, an inning later, Pompeo recorded an RBI of her own with a run-scoring groundout to shortstop.

Though fans may have thought another blowout was on the way, Hood received help from Messiah to quickly tie the game; with two on and two out in the bottom of the second, a hit-by-pitch and back-to-back walks by Claressa Mees forced in two runs for the Blazers to make it 2-2.

The game remained tied until sixth when Pompeo singled to the right side to bring in Emily Quatrale all the way from second base. In the seventh another sac fly from Ammon allowed Courtney Allen to come home from third for a 4-2 lead.

Mees allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh before recording two strikeouts and a lineout to end the game.

Mees tied a career-high with nine strikeouts across her seven innings of work. She allowed just four hits and moved to 10-2.

Quatrale and Pompeo each had two hits and Becky Notte went 3-4 to lead the Falcons.

With the double-header sweep Messiah moved to 12-2 in the Commonwealth, still good for second place behind Lebanon Valley (13-1). The Falcons next play on Wednesday, Apr. 23 when they're set to York College.
