XML Box Score Winchester, VA – Shenandoah scored runs in each of the first five innings and rode their early lead to an 11-3 win over Messiah on Wednesday. The Hornets took leads of 6-0 and 10-1 and finished with 16 hits.
Nolan Overybay drilled a two-run homerun in the first inning to give the hosts an immediate lead. They added single runs in the second and fourth innings while pushing across three runs in each the third and fifth frames.
Jacob Sprengle homered in the fourth inning to account for the Falcons' first run. Unforunately, they were trailing 6-0 at the time and went down 10-1 after five innings.
Sprengle added an RBI single in the eighth, with an unearned run soon bring Messiah's total to three.
Peter Fisher finished two innings in the start; he allowed seven hits and four earned runs.
Colby Helgerson and
Adam Marshall each allowed three runs while
Zach Luman allowed just a single run in his three innings of work.
Shenandoah moved to 19-5 with the win. Messiah fell to 8-7 and will next play tomorrow at York College at 3:30 p.m.
