XML Box Score Williamsport, PA - Lycoming College snapped Messiah's four-game winning streak today by shutting down the Falcons' offense and keeping them to just two goals in the 6-2 Commonwealth loss. Despite winning 10 of 11 faceoffs and outshooting the Warriors 29-22, Messiah could not come away with the win.
The Falcons were unable to score past the first quarter due to the relentless defense posed by the Warriors. Messiah took ten shots alone in the fourth quarter but Lycoming keeper Alex Wylly made six of his thirteen stops in the final 15 minutes.
Lycoming notched the first goal of the game at the 9:21 mark but Messiah answered with a man-up goal by
Andrew Harris six minutes later. The Warriors again went on top by a goal with 1:14 left in the quarter, however
Will Franken scored just three seconds after the ensuing faceoff win to tie the game.
Both teams struggled to find the net through the second quarter and halfway through the third, despite shots coming from both sides. The Warriors' Matt McCaffer eventually broke through the drought at the 8:05 mark and Lycoming added two more before the end of the quarter.
In the second half, Messiah outshot the Warriors 17-10 and won every faceoff but Lycoming forced nine turnovers and picked up 13 ground balls to keep the Falcons on their heels.
Lycoming scored their sixth goal of the game on a 30-second man-up situation in the final quarter. Overall, Alex Wylly made 13 stops on the 29 Falcons' shots and
Brooks Arnold stopped seven balls for Messiah.
Messiah drops to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Lycoming improves to 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth. The Falcons will next travel to Albright College this Saturday, Apr. 5, to face the Lions at 1:00 p.m.
