Lancaster, PA- Lancaster Bible defeated Messiah College 8-6 after jumping out to an early lead. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 15-17 on the season and remain at 11-10 in the Commonwealth Conference. With the win, the Chargers improved their record to 12-17 on the season and are 4-11 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
The Chargers struck first in the bottom of the first inning scoring four early runs. Kody Godsey had an RBI single that drove in Caleb Mayer from third. Matt Talierco scored on an error charged to Joe Saufley to make it 2-0. Nate Long capped off the inning with a two-run single to make the score 4-0. Lancaster Bible added two more runs in the bottom of the second to make it 6-0.
In the top of the third inning, Messiah cut the Chargers' lead in half by scoring three runs. Ben Sollenberger hit an RBI double that drove in Zach Brubaker for the Falcons' first run of the game. Jacob Sprengle's RBI single then drove in Sollenberger to make the score 6-2. Sprengle scored after Ethan Zimmerman was hit by a pitch to make it 6-3.
The Chargers scored another two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an error by the Falcons' second baseman Colton Kiester to make the score 8-3.
Messiah drove in two more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 8-5. Sollenberger drove in Jon Lapp on a fielder's choice and Sprengle's RBI single drove in Kiester.
In the top of the ninth inning, Messiah started to rally. Isaiah Shipman scored on a Chargers' error to make the score 8-6. But the Falcons' rally came up short after Kiester struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.
With the loss, Paul Broomell fell to 1-3 on the year. Broomell pitched one inning giving up six runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks.
The Falcons will return back home to face Gettysburg College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
