XML Box Score 2 Grantham, PA – Good pitching, timely hitting, and everything in-between—just what the Falcons needed to extend their win streak to eight-straight games. Messiah took both games of the double-header with Dickinson on Thursday, and outscored the Red Devils 12-1 overall.
Game One Becky Notte knocked a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Messiah College to a 4-1 win in game one with Dickinson.
Mallory Rutledge completed all seven innings and allowed just six hits, a walk, and one earned run.
The Falcons' first run came in the second inning, and was set up by a leadoff triple to right field by
Krista Ammon. After a sacrifice slap from
Nicole Blantz moved Ammon to third,
Tina Lehman brought her home with a double to left center.
In the fourth inning the Red Devils put two runners on base with just one out but failed to tie the score. However, in the fifth inning Garlinger collected a leadoff single and soon moved to third with no one out; catcher
Becky Notte threw behind Garlinger at first base but the ball bounced through all the way into right field for a two-base error. Rutledge then allowed three singles to the next five batters and Dickinson tied the game at 1-1. But the junior right-hander limited the damage in the big way as she induced a fly ball to right field with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Messiah responded quickly with their own rally.
Brooke Pompeo reached with one out on an error by the third baseman and then went to second on a single by
Courtney Allen. A passed ball sent them both into scoring position, and
Becky Notte's clutch single up the middle put Messiah on top 3-1.
Emily Quatrale added an RBI single in the sixth to push their lead to 4-1.
Krista Ammon scored the run after she hit another triple, a shot to right field identical to her hit in the second inning.
Rutledge, meanwhile sat down the final six batters for Dickinson, with the ball never leaving the infield.
Game Two Krista Ammon drilled a towering three-run homerun to deep left field to cap a five-run third inning and
Sara McKee completed four innings to lead Messiah to the sweep. McKee took the decision for her first win after allowing just three hits and two walks against two strikeouts.
McKee received help from her defense in the first inning after back-to-back singles put two runners on base with one out. After a flyout for the second out,
Becky Notte picked off Dickinson's runner at second to end the frame.
In the third McKee again stranded two runners on base with a big strikeout to end the inning and her teammates responded with a huge inning.
Courtney Allen continued her impressive home stand with an RBI triple to right field, putting Messiah up 1-0. Becky Notee followed with a run-scoring single up the middle and, after
Katie Tankred singled, Ammon followed with her deep drive well beyond the wall in left.
The home run for Ammon was the first of her season and the third extra-base hit of the double-header.
Eight Falcons combined for nine hits in the win, with Tankred picking up a single and a double.
Claressa Mees also tossed a perfect inning in relief of McKee.
Messiah will look to keep their streak alive when they host Arcadia University on Friday in a conference double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Live stats and radio links can be found at GoMessiah.tv.
