XML Box Score Reading, PA - Albiright College was too strong on their home field today, winning 19 of 24 faceoffs, and gave Messiah the loss 13-8.
Tyler Goglio and
Will Franken each netted three goals in the contest to lead the Falcons.
Nate Nester and
Ryan Mayer each assisted on two goals.
The Lions were led by Mike Southwick with three goals, four other Albright players scored two goals in the game.
Albright went up quickly in the game with a goal just over a minute in a followed that up with their second goal less than a minute later. The Lions took a 4-1 lead at the 9:17 mark but the Falcons came back with two of their own to come within one by the end of the 1st quarter.
The Lions scored two goals within a minute of each other in the second quarter before Messiah's
Andrew Harris scored a man-up goal to make the score 6-4. Before the end of the second quarter though, the Lions netted two more goals within a minute of each other to go up 8-4.
Through the first half, the Falcons were down on shots 23-8, and ground balls 25-9. Messiah only won one faceoff through the first 30 minutes. The Falcons converted more clears than the Lions in the first half, 9-4, and in the game, 13-9.
In the third quarter, Albright again outscored the Falcons 4-1, putting away two goals in the final two minutes. Messiah was unable to keep possession for significant periods of time, turning the ball over seven times. The Falcons only committed two turnovers in the first and fourth quarters.
The Falcons were given a great opportunity to get back into the game when Albright was given an illegal crosse penalty to start the fourth quarter. Messiah could not convert on the chance but did score first in the quarter on a goal by
Will Franken. Harris scored his second of the game shortly after to bring the score to 11-7.
Albright responded with two goals of their own to retake a six-goal lead. With a minute to go,
Tyler Goglio scored his hat trick and prompted a flurry of shots by the Falcons, however by that time it was too late. The Lions won the game 13-8 and handed the Falcons their second Commonwealth loss of the season.
Messiah fell to 4-6 overall, while Albright improved to 5-4 on the year with the result. Albright's Jordan DiZenzo got the win in goal; Messiah's
T.J. Cole started the game and made six saves.
