Reading, PA - The Messiah men's tennis team dominated the Lions of Albright College Saturday, cruising to an 8-1 victory.
The Falcons swept the doubles competition, picking up solid wins from No. 2
Peter Shuck and
Zachary Brunner (8-0) and No. 3
Michael Kovacs and
Devin Esch A(8-2).
Michael Brookhart and
David Wichert had their hands full in the No. 1 spot, but pulled out the win over Mathew Muoio and Ken Richardson 8-6.
In singles action, No. 1 Brookhart lost the first set 6-1, but put up a valiant effort to take the second set to a tie-break. In the end, Muoio prevailed 7-6 (6-4) to win the match.
The Falcons swept the rest of the singles matches, with decisive wins coming from No. 2
David Wichert (6-1, 6-3) and No. 3
Devin Esch (6-2, 6-2). At the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6, the Falcons dropped only two games as Chris Brittingham (6-0, 6-1),
Michael Kovacs (6-0, 6-0), and
Austin Warren (6-1, 6-0) picking up their respective wins.
With the victory, the Falcons move to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference. They will return to action on Tuesday with their first home game of the season against Lycoming. The Commonwealth match up will begin at 4:00 p.m.
