XML Box Score Chester, PA – Messiah College moved to 3-1 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 16-11 win over Widener University on Tuesday night.
Jenna Stover led the Falcons with a career-high five goals while
Claire Stikeleather added four tallies.
Messiah led 5-3 after the first period before the teams combined for 19 goals in the final 30 minutes. The Falcons led by at least two goals the entire half and twice scored four unanswered goals to increase their lead. The final set of four-straight goals came with under six minutes to play to blow the game open. Two of those goals came from Stover, who now has six goals in the last two games.
The Falcons outshot the Pride 31-21 and put 20 of those shots on cage. Stover's five goals came on nine shots while Stikeleather's four goals came on just four attempts.
Lizzy Keeney also kept her hot-streak going with two goals in the game's first six minutes. She went on to finish with just those two goals—bringing her team-leading total to 44—but also collected three assists.
Madi Brunk impressively handed out six helpers and increased her team-high total to 29 assists.
Widener went a perfect 13-13 on clear attempts but they turned the ball over 16 times. Pinky Schneider scored four times for the hosts and Melissa Sailey added three goals. Megan Dunn collected 11 saves between the pipes.
The loss for Widener dropped them to 2-9 overall and an 2-2 in the Commonwealth.
The win evened the Falcons' record at 6-6, a respectable mark considering their battles with numerous Top 10 foes in the early weeks of the season. They will look to push their win streak to four games this week Thursday when they host Swarthmore College at 7:00 p.m.
