Grantham, PA - Kevin DeRosa defeated Michael Kovacs (6-4, 6-3) in the deciding No. 6 singles match on Saturday as Gettysburg College edged Messiah College 5-4 in the teams' season-opener. DeRosa's decision completed a hotly-contested afternoon between the Falcons and Bullets, as Messiah overcame two losses in the doubles to nearly overtake the Bullets.

Tim Dunn had a solid debut with the Falcons with a come-from-behind win in No. 2 singles (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) over Wes Craft. Fellow newcomer Conner Graybeal also won in the No. 5 singles (6-3, 7-5) while Peter Shuck (7-6 [8-6], 6-4 at No. 4) was the lone returner to pick up a singles decision.

Devin Esch and Graybeal combined to pick up the Falcons' lone win the doubles, 8-2.

The Falcons will next play on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when they host York College.
