Falcons Continue to Roll with 3-0 Victory Over Cougars

Dallas, PA – The Falcons collected their tenth win of the season after defeating the Misericordia Cougars on Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The Falcons dominated the first half while out shooting the Cougars 8-0. Two of those eight shots found the back of the net, putting the Falcons up 2-0 at the half.

The second-half was a much more even half, though the Falcons did hold an advantage in shots (9-6) and more importantly they added insurance in the form of a goal off the foot of Jack Thompson.

In the game's first few minutes the Falcons had a handful of chances, getting off three shots before breaking the scoreless tie and getting on the board for the first time in the game's 15th minute. Jack Thompson had his shot initially blocked but Raul Serrano got a foot on the rebound and put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

With the Falcons leading 1-0, the second goal would come in the 39th minute. Colby Thomas – who found the back of the net for the first time in his career on Wednesday against York – had a great opportunity for his second career goal. On a breakaway with just the Cougar keeper to beat, Thomas did just that, putting the Falcons up 2-0.

The second-half began with even play in the midfield. While both teams traded chances, no one found the back of the net for the first twenty minutes of the second period. In the 66th minute the Falcons added their third and final goal. Jeremy Payne brought the ball into the box, drawing the keeper off his line. Payne fed Jack Thompson who put the ball in the back of a wide-open net.

The Falcons continued a stellar defensive season with their second straight shutout and seventh overall. Brandon West, who played all 90 minutes in goal, tallied three saves in the win and lowered his goals against average to 0.42.

The Falcons next take the field Tuesday, Sept. 30th, when Elizabethtown visits Shoemaker field for the first time since leaving the Commonwealth Conference. Wednesday's game will be the 53rd meeting between the two bitter rivals, with the Falcons holding an all-time 33-17-2 record against the Blue Jays.
