Reading, PA - The Falcons swept the Alvernia Crusaders (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) on Tuesday afternoon to improve their record to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in the commonwealth conference. The Falcons were lead by
Jane Underman (seven kills),
Kristen Douglas (six kills),
Brooke Gallagher (19 assists), and
Jennifer Rusling (12 assists).
The first set started out comeptitve as both teams traded scores which brought the score to 12-11 in Messiah's favor. The Falcons fired off three straight scores with two kills from Kristen Dougals and a service ace from
Taylor Hook. Messiah led 24-18 when the Crusaders committed an attack error and gave the Falcons the first set victoy.
Kristen Douglas recorded all six of her kills from the match during this set.
The second set had the Falcons winning by the same score as the first, 25-18. Messiah used a complete team effort to win this set as they received kills from seven different players.
Taylor Hook,
Julia Temple,
Emily Buckwalter,
Alyssa Vorbeck,
Hayley Cowoski,
Brooke Gallagher, and
Emily Zellers all recorded kills in the set with Zellers scoring the final kill to give Messiah the set victory.
The Falcons took a demanding lead in the third set and didn't allow the Crusaders to get close to their lead. A five point scoring streak early in the set from a kill by
Jane Underman and four attacking errors from the Crusaders gave the Falcons a 11-5 lead. Two service aces from
Julia Temple, a kill by
Emily Lelah, and a service error commited by Alvernia led Messiah to another scoring streak and gave the Falcons a 21-12 lead. The final point of the match came from a service ace by
Jenny Baumer which gave the Falcons the match victory. Messiah finished with a .202 attacking percentage for the match compared to Alvernia's .010.
The Falcons host the MAC Crossover this Saturday as they take on Misericordia University and DeSales University at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.
