XML Box Score 2 Lancaster, PA - The Falcons swept Lancaster Bible College (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) in their first match of today's tri-match at LBC. Messiah followed that up with a sweep of Cairn University, (25-13, 25-19, 25-16).
Match One: Lancaster Bible College (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) Messiah women's volleyball got out to a fast start in their first match of the day taking a 3-0 decision over the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (25-15,25-19,25-18).
After falling behind 3-2 early in the set, the Falcons went on a 13-4 run to take a demanding 15-7 lead.
Kristen Douglas would tally six kills including the final kill to give the Falcons the set.
The Falcons would be tested in the second set as the Chargers trailed the Falcons 17-14. An 8-5 run which included kills by five different Falcons would give them the second set victory.
Jennifer Rusling would add six assists to the Falcons winning effort.
The third and final set saw the Falcons put the Chargers away by a score of 25-18. Messiah jumped out to a commanding 14-3 lead. Lancaster Bible battled back, but the Falcons were too much to handle for the Chargers, and earned the sweep.
Kristen Douglas performed well tallying twelve kills and eleven digs.
Brooke Gallagher would lead the team in assists with twenty-two.
Match Two: Cairn University (25-13, 25-19, 25-16)The Falcons finished the day out strong as they swept the Highlanders of Cairn University (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) at Lancaster Bible College.
The Falcons looked tough in the first set of the match.
Brooke Gallagher had an outstanding set as she added twelve assists to her eighteen overall for the match, leading the Falcons to the first set victory 25-13.
Unlike the first set, Messiah had to grind out the second set as they won 25-19. The set went back and forth until the Falcons put together four straight points by a kill from
Jane Underman, a service ace from
Alyssa Vorbeck, and two attack errors from the Highlanders.
The third set was much like the second, with the Highlanders competing hard and the Falcons pulling away at the end. The score was 22-19 when the Falcons rallied off three points to get the match victory.
Jane Underman finished the match with 10 kills and
Kristen Douglas finished with 7 digs. The Falcons improved to 5-2 and will be back in action Sept. 10 when they square off against Widener University at 7:00 pm in Grantham, Pa.
