by Trent Brown, GoMessiah.com reporterReading, PA – The Falcons were handed a tough loss this afternoon from the Commonwealth second place Albright College, 65-57.
Gillian Glackin (16 points) and
Sienna Wisse (13 points) both scored in double digits for Messiah, who couldn't finish a game that was tied 57-57 in the final minutes.
Hannah Brown chipped in with eight points, all in the first-half.
The Falcons struggled putting the ball in the basket all night, as they made 21 of 58 shot attempts, good enough for just a touch over 36%. The Lions on the other hand shot well above their season average and converted on over 53% of their attempts. The Lions also scored 34 of their 65 points in the paint, while holding Messiah to just 16 points in the paint.
In a first-half that featured four lead changes and five ties, the Falcons yet again found themselves even with the Lions at 57-57 with just 1:47 left to play. However, three fouls by forward
Gillian Glackin in a span of 10 seconds-- causing her to foul out-- changed the momentum to the Lions' favor for good as they went on to score eight unanswered points in the final 1:11 of the game, six of which came on free throws.
Kelecia Harris led the Lions with 18 points, while also contributing six rebounds.
The loss dropped the Falcons to 3-3 in the Commonwealth (7-8 overall) on the season. The loss was also the Falcons' first to Albright since Feb. of 2009.
The Falcons will try to rebound on Jan. 17 when they host Arcadia University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
