Holt Scores Twice as Falcons Dominate Knights

Glenside, PA - Taylor Holt scored twice as the Falcons defeated the Arcadia Knights 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. Carissa Gehman, Emily Schillinger, and Logan Ryan also tallied for the Falcons as Messiah outshot the Knights 25-9 in the game.

The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Holt and Gehman less than a minute apart. In the sixth minute, Messiah kicked off the scoring on a penalty corner. Holt inserted a pass off the corner to Nicole Wilkerson, who swung the ball around the top of the circle to Kaylor Rosenberry. Rosenberry sent a centering pass into traffic in front of the cage and the ball was tipped into the air. Holt had moved from the corner toward the post was right there to knock the ball out of the air and into the back of the cage.

Less than a minute later Lindsay Bower intercepted a pass in the midfield that led to a Falcons attack. Bower sent a ball ahead to Carissa Gehman. Gehman was fouled just inside the 25. After the foul, she quickly restarted and carried the ball into the top of the circle. She ripped a shot that beat the keeper to her left side and gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Messiah held the 2-0 lead for the majority of the first-half, but with just under three minutes remaining in the half, Logan Ryan scored her second goal of the season off a penalty corner. Kezia Loht sent a high ball in from the top of the circle that Ryan knocked out of the air and into the back of the cage at about shoulder height.

Ryan's goal pushed the Messiah lead to 3-0 at the half. After the break the Falcons continued to dominate play, and 10 minutes into the second-half Messiah would strike for its fourth goal of the afternoon. Off a penalty corner, Holt cleaned up a mess to the left side of the cage, for her second goal of the game – the two-goal game is Holt's first career multi-goal.

Messiah scored their fifth and final goal off a penalty corner in the 65th minute. Kristin Donohue started the play by inserting the ball to the top of the circle. The ball came right back to Donohue, who got the ball past the goalie and across the goalmouth. Emily Schillinger was there to tap the ball into the back of the cage.

Arcadia scored off an untimed penalty corner at the end of regulation to arrive at the final score of 5-1.

With the win the Falcons improve to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Messiah will next take the field on Thursday when they travel to Shippensburg to take on the Raiders.
