Three days after playing to a scoreless draw to Farmingdale State on Shoemaker Field, No. 2 Messiah College went on the road and earned a lopsided 6-0 win over Lycoming College.
Nikki Elsaesser and
Kyele Bridel each tallied twice in the decision.
The win pushed the Falcons to 11-0-2 on the season, including 3-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Bridel's first goal of the afternoon put the Falcons up less than four minutes into play.
Skylar Ulry served a cross from the right side and Bridel met it with a header inside the 18. Lycoming keeper Joelle Winey came off her line too quickly on the serve, and she could not recover to Bridel's lofted shot into the back of the net.
In the 15th minute the Falcons doubled their lead when Elsaesser was played quick off a restart from atop the 18.
Macaulay Soto put the ball to the left side for Nikki, and she was all alone for a clear shot across the frame and inside the far post.
Now completely settled in, Messiah scored three more times in a 13-minute span. Bridel's second tally came from inside the box after a cross from the left side was popped up and to the feet of Elsaesser on the six. She dropped back to Bridel for an open look to the right side of the net. Minutes later
Marisa Weaver tallied when she was played long and over the middle from
Lilly Shover. Winey again came way out on the play but Weaver beat her to it for a shot from the top of the box.
Ally Reinhardt finished the first-half scoring in the 33rd minute when she cleaned up a mess right in front of the net.
The Falcons' final goal of the afternoon came from Elsaesser. Shover played the Messiah target down the right sideline and Elsaesser took it into the box for a shot past new keeper Helen Ross.
The goals for Elsaesser increased her team lead to 12 tallies, while Bridel pushed her career-high goal total to 10.
Audra Larson and
Sara Yunez split time in the net, though neither was tested. Messiah finished with a 25-2 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corners.
The Falcons next play on Saturday when they host Arcadia University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in front of the Falcons' Homecomind Day crowd.
