Chester, PA – Messiah College won for a fifth time in six games with a 3-0 win at Widener on Tuesday night. The Falcons scored all three of their goals in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Messiah's win pushed them to 10-4-1 overall, and their 4-1 mark in the conference is good for second overall behind Lycoming (5-0-1).
The Falcons got off to a great start with a goal from
Benji Kennel in just the fifth minute of play.
Jacob Bender played Kennel behind the Widener defense and Kennel deftly took two touches off a high bounce for a rocket past keeper David Sousa. The score came on Messiah's first shot of the game.
Ten minutes later Messiah increased their lead, scoring two more goals in a span of 2:01.
Nick West made it 2-0, doing so after
David Alejos and
Will Cochran both clawed to keep possession atop the 18. Cochran's effort ended with a short cross from the left side, and West managed to quickly get off a shot to the right side of the goal. Two minutes later,
Danny Rowe tallied off a corner set.
Bryant Myer made the serve, and Rowe fired it through with a header at the back post.
The Falcons put six of their 10 first-half shots on frame, and they also held Widener without a single shot on goal.
In the second-half Messiah put three more shots on goal, but they didn't increase their lead.
Connor Bell collected a save on Widener's single shot on goal.
Messiah will finish a two-game road trip when they play at Albright College on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
