Chester, PA -
Nikki Elsaesser scored twice and the Falcons outshot the Pride 34-0 in a 6-0 win at Widener on Wednesday night. Messiah, picked again this week as the NSCAA No. 1 team in the nation, completely dominated from start to finish.
The win pushed the Falcons to 13-0-2, including a perfect 5-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.
The Falcons got on the board in just the fourth minute when
Erin Sollenberger slotted Elsaesser into the box for a quick strike from 10 yards out. Just over 10 minutes later Elsaesser played the helper when she found
Holly Burgard for a rocket from 30 yards out past keeper Olivia Pfautz. The goal was Burgard's sixth of the season.
A few minutes before the first-half ended
Emily Lockwood picked up her first career goal when Pfautz was caught awkwardly trying to collect a possession outside of the box. After Pfautz fired a kick into a group of players, Lockwood took the ball to her feet for a goal and 3-0 lead.
Already firmly in front, Messiah ran away with three more goals in the first eight minutes of the second-half.
Marisa Weaver scored the fourth goal off a feed from
Macaulay Soto, with the goal getting through off a header. A few minutes later
Skylar Ulry picked up her first career tally with an undefended shot from 20 yards out on the right side. Elsaesser then completed the scoring at the 53rd minute mark with a shot from yards out in the midfield.
Kayla Deckert and
DJ Cole picked up assists on those last two goals, respectively.
The performance for Elsaesser boosted her team-leading goal and assist totals to 15 and 11, respectively. Her 11 helpers also matched a career-high, set in both 2012 and 2014.
Audra Larson and
Sara Yunez split time in frame, though neither was tested as the Falcons did not allow a single shot for the first time in 2015.
Messiah next plays on Saturday when they travel to Albright College for a game at 5:30 p.m.
