Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Falcons Chill Blazers, Win Big at Home

Grantham, PA - The Messiah Falcons wrapped up their MAC Commonwealth season with a 7-0 victory over the Hood Blazers on Tuesday evening. The Falcons outshot the Blazers 40-0 on the game. Taylor Holt and Carissa Gehman both tallied twice in the victory.

Messiah scored early and often in the victory. The first strike came just 90 seconds into the contest. Nicole Wilkerson spun and found Carissa Gehman in front of the cage. Gehman took a back handed shot that was saved, but the rebound came right to her. She followed up with a second shot that was too strong to be stopped by a Blazer defender and it found the back of the cage.

Nineteen seconds later, Gehman struck again. This time, Moriah Pfautz carried the ball to the left side of the cage and sent a centering pass that found Gehman wide open in front of the cage. Gehman tapped it in and the Falcons led 2-0.

After a penalty in the midfield Wilkerson found Karin Holvik on the right side. Holvik carried the ball toward the circle before sending a long centering pass through traffic that found Taylor Holt on the left post. Holt got a stick on it and sent it into the back of the cage for the Falcons' third goal.

Ally Morgret and Mattie Berger rounded out the Falcons first-half scoring, each collecting their first goals of the year. Morgret connected in the 12th minute off a shot from the right side of the cage. Kezia Loht set up the shot with a centering pass from the left side.

Berger connected less than a minute before halftime. Emily Schillinger sent a centering pass from the right side to Berger in front of the cage and Berger flipped it in for the 5-0 lead.

Second-half goals by Emily Schillinger and Taylor Holt gave the Falcons the final score of 7-0.

As mentioned, the Falcons dominated throughout the contest, holding possession in their attacking third of the field for the majority of play. The game marks the second contest of the year that the Falcons did not allow a shot (Widener - Oct. 17).

Messiah has now collected four-straight shutouts. In those games the Falcons have allowed just 11 shots.

The Falcons will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when the No. 5 William Smith Herons travel to Grantham. Game time set for 12:00 p.m.
