Williamsport, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College cruised to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) sweep over the Warriors of Lycoming College and improved to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
The first set of the match was the most competitive with the Falcons coming out as victors by a 25-21 score. Messiah edged Lycoming in kills (14-12), attack percentage (34.3-25.8), and committed two fewer errors than the Warriors (2-4) during the first set.
 
The Falcons trailed the Warriors throughout the beginning of the first set. With Lycoming leading 12-11, Messiah grabbed a 14-12 lead with a three point scoring streak created by a kill from 
Taylor Hook, a service ace by 
Kristen Douglas, and an attack error by the Warriors.
 
Lycoming battled back and tied the score at 17 when the Falcons rallied for five unanswered points to regain a 21-17 lead. The five point scoring streak was fashioned by two kills and a service ace from 
Hannah Baumer, a kill by 
Jane Underman, and an attack error from Lycoming.
 
Messiah led 24-21 when 
Alyssa Vorbeck tallied the final point of the set from a well placed kill.
 
Much like the first set, the Falcons edged the Warriors statistically and collected a 25-17 second set victory. Messiah led Lycoming in kills (12-9), attack percentage (26.7-12.5), and committed fewer errors (4-6).
 
The Warriors played aggressive during the beginning of the set and led 4-1. The Falcons responded in a big way with seven unanswered points and captured a 7-4 lead. The seven point scoring streak was produced by two kills from 
Kristen Douglas, a kill by 
Hannah Baumer, another kill by 
Brooke Gallagher, a service ace from 
Emily Zellers, and an attack error by the Warriors.
 
Both teams exchanged points evenly throughout the set and Messiah led 19-16 late in the set. The Falcons crushed any hope for a Lycoming comeback with five unanswered points created by a kill and service ace by 
Kristen Douglas, and three errors by Lycoming.
 
Brooke Gallagher tallied the final point of the set from a kill and gave Messiah a 2-0 advantage over Lycoming.
 
The third and final set of the match was dominated by the Falcons both statistically and on the scoreboard. Messiah led Lycoming in kills (17-6), attack percentage (30.6-11.1), but committed more errors than the Warriors (6-3).
 
Messiah held a comfortable 15-9 lead when they exploded offensively with five unanswered points for an insurmountable 20-9 lead. The five straight points came from a kill by 
Alyssa Vorbeck, a kill from 
Kristen Douglas, a service ace by 
Jane Underman, and two errors committed by Lycoming.
 
Brooke Gallagher tallied her second set-winning point of the match with another kill.
 
The Falcons were led offensively by 
Kristen Douglas who tallied 13 kills and 
Brooke Gallagher who dished out 31 assists. Defensively, Messiah had strong performances by 
Brooke Gallagher and 
Emily Zellers who each tallied nine digs.
 
Messiah will be back in action this Friday and Saturday when they play four matches in the Gallaudet Tournament held at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C.
