Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Slow Start Dooms Falcons on the Road

Wayne, PA - Messiah College fell behind early and couldn't catch up in a 72-56 loss at Eastern University on Tuesday night. The Falcons were down 8-5 midway through the first quarter but a 21-5 run by the Eagles put the Falcons in a 29-10 hole that proved too much to overcome.

Gillian Glackin led the Falcons with 11 points and 13 rebounds, but Messiah shot just 23-78 (29.5%) from the field in the losing effort.

The Falcons dropped to 3-2 on the season, while Eastern moved to 4-1.

The 29-10 run was the major difference in the game, especially since Messiah outscored the Eagles 46-43 otherwise. Nevertheless, Messiah was playing from behind for the entire way after the bad start, and Eastern's Emily Lavin was a big reason why. She scored 11 of Eastern's 29 points in that pivotal run, and she finished 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocks on the night, good for Eastern's first triple-double in seven years. Taylor Price was also a standout for Eastern in that early play as she was on her way to 18 points and nine rebounds. The Eagles' Reggie Robinson was the third of the "big three" for Eastern as she also finished with 18 points to go along with 10 boards.

Messiah's 24 turnovers were also a big part of the Falcons' futility as they led to 21 points for the Eagles.

Maci Thornton had a career-high 10 points to join Glackin in double-figures, and Alecia Rohrer scored eight points and grabbed five boards.

The Falcons will look to put the loss behind them when they play exactly one week from tonight against Stevenson University at 6:00 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium.
