Falcons Stumble in Rematch with Marymount

Grantham, PA - Messiah College was unable to put together consistent play on either side of the ball in a lopsided loss on Wednesday night, 71-36 to Marymount University. The game was a rematch of a Falcons' win from earlier this season, and the Saints proved up to the task as they outscored Messiah 57-24 in the final three quarters.

Messiah fell to 4-4 with the loss and will now prepare for Saturday's conference match-up with Alvernia. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium.

The Falcons scored the final four points of the first quarter to make it 14-12 at the end, but that was the closest the Falcons would get for the rest of the game. Kievanna Lacey hit a three-pointer to start the second quarter and launch an 11-3 run that helped them build a 25-15 lead. Hannah Brown ended that streak with a driving layup in the paint, but Messiah only got to within seven points before the Saints took a 34-23 halftime lead.

Marymount continued their strong play when the third quarter opened as they tallied the first eight points to up 42-23. They led by as many as 35 points late in the game as the Falcons never were able to settle into a comeback.

Lacey led all scorers with 18 points and four other Saints scored in double-figures. The forward-combo of Nicole Viscuso and Miranda Krott combined for 22 points, and Leah Hurst had a terrific showing with 10 points, eight assists, and four steals. The Saints also shot a blistering 29-49 (59%) from the field.

As for the Falcons, their shooting woes (16-49; 33%) from the field were made worse by a 2-15 (13%) showing from three-point range. They also committed 22 turnovers and were outrebounded 33-21.

Maci Thornton and Gillian Glackin led the Falcons with seven points apiece, and Alecia Rohrer scored six points.

Messiah will look to get back in the win column this Saturday against Alvernia. The Falcons are currently 1-1 in the MAC Commonwealth while the Crusaders are 0-1.
