Comeback Falls Short, Falcons Drop Road Game to Knights

Glenside, PA – The Falcons dropped their third straight game Tuesday night as they fell to host Arcadia University 72-67.

The Knights came out firing and jumped to an early 9-4 lead just 3:17 into the game. However, the Falcons would answer with a Kaitlyn Hoff and-one layup followed by a Hannah Nichols layup to even the score at 9-9. Arcadia would hold three five-point leads in the first-half, but the Falcons never let it extend beyond that.

The Falcons came out of the half-time break cold from the field, as they were only able to muster three points in the first 5:47. The 12-3 run extended the Knights lead to 10, as they led 42-32. Messiah was able to stop the bleeding for the time being and cut the lead down to five points coming on the heels of layup from Jocelyn Chavous and a clutch three-pointer from Hoff. However, as they seemed to do almost all night, the Knights kept Messiah from gaining too much momentum as they responded with an 11-2 run, extending the lead to the largest of the game at 14 points with 11:49 left.

Messiah refused to go down quietly, however as they put together a huge run of their own over the next 9:30.  Led by Dominique Seamon and Kaitlyn Hoff, the Falcons strung together a 23-10 run to reduce the Knights lead to 63-62, with just over two minutes to play. Seamon would contribute nine points during the run, knocking down a three along the way, with Hoff chipping in seven and converting on another and-one layup. The duo combined to score 16 of the Falcons 23 points during the run.

The run was all for not however, as the Knights would once again keep the Falcons from taking the lead and would limp to a five point victory.

"We played really had for moments," said head coach Mike Miller, "But we need to do that for 40 minutes. We spent too much energy trying to catch up again."

The Falcons were led offensively by Kaitlyn Hoff who had 22 points (9-12 from the field), five rebounds and five assists. "Kait had her best all-around game of her career tonight," said coach Miller. Gillian Glackin (19) and Dominique Seamon (12) also scored double digits for Messiah.

The loss drops Messiah to 12-12 overall and 8-7 in the conference and also marks the first time in program history the Falcons have fallen to Arcadia.  They next play at Hood College on Feb. 21.
