Glenside, PA – The Falcons dropped their third straight game Tuesday night as they fell to host Arcadia University 72-67.
Â
The Knights came out firing and jumped to an early 9-4 lead just 3:17 into the game. However, the Falcons would answer with a
Kaitlyn Hoff and-one layup followed by a
Hannah Nichols layup to even the score at 9-9. Arcadia would hold three five-point leads in the first-half, but the Falcons never let it extend beyond that.
Â
The Falcons came out of the half-time break cold from the field, as they were only able to muster three points in the first 5:47. The 12-3 run extended the Knights lead to 10, as they led 42-32. Messiah was able to stop the bleeding for the time being and cut the lead down to five points coming on the heels of layup from
Jocelyn Chavous and a clutch three-pointer from Hoff. However, as they seemed to do almost all night, the Knights kept Messiah from gaining too much momentum as they responded with an 11-2 run, extending the lead to the largest of the game at 14 points with 11:49 left.
Â
Messiah refused to go down quietly, however as they put together a huge run of their own over the next 9:30. Led by
Dominique Seamon and
Kaitlyn Hoff, the Falcons strung together a 23-10 run to reduce the Knights lead to 63-62, with just over two minutes to play. Seamon would contribute nine points during the run, knocking down a three along the way, with Hoff chipping in seven and converting on another and-one layup. The duo combined to score 16 of the Falcons 23 points during the run.
Â
The run was all for not however, as the Knights would once again keep the Falcons from taking the lead and would limp to a five point victory.
Â
"We played really had for moments," said head coach
Mike Miller, "But we need to do that for 40 minutes. We spent too much energy trying to catch up again."
Â
The Falcons were led offensively by
Kaitlyn Hoff who had 22 points (9-12 from the field), five rebounds and five assists. "Kait had her best all-around game of her career tonight," said coach Miller.
Gillian Glackin (19) and
Dominique Seamon (12) also scored double digits for Messiah.
Â
The loss drops Messiah to 12-12 overall and 8-7 in the conference and also marks the first time in program history the Falcons have fallen to Arcadia. Â They next play at Hood College on Feb. 21.
