Red Devils Spoil Potential Road Win, Falcons Fall in OT

Carlisle, PA - Dickinson College stole victory from the jaws of defeat on Wednesday, as they scored the final five goals of the game and upended the Falcons in double-overtime. Maddy Siebold scored the game-tying goal with just seven seconds left in regulation, and Jennifer Morrissey notched the game-winner in the sudden-victory overtime session.

The Falcons led 7-3 with just over 12 minutes to play in the second-half, but Dickinson flipped a switch to score four times before the final horn. Siebold scored two of the final three goals for the Red Devils, including a quick one-timer with 6:24 to play that made it 7-5.

Dickinson pulled to within 7-6 on a goal by Sophie Waine with exactly 4:00 to go. She scooped up a loose ball at the top of the circle and raced to the goal for the tally, her third of the game (and season).

Despite the momentum swing, Messiah had a chance to seal the win when they caused a turnover with 1:45 to play. But they soon gave the ball right back on a turnover by Shayna Delaney, and Dickinson raced down the field in their attempt to tie the game. With less than 10 seconds to play Siebold dodged in from the top of the circle and was fouled on a shot attempt. In the resulting free-position attempt Siebold put her shot past Alex Dipeso, setting off a raucous cheer from her teammates.

The teams played scoreless through the first six-minute overtime, and the suddne-victory period followed. Caroline Clancy collected the all-important draw control to start the period and Dickinson scored just 31 seconds later off a low, sweeping shot by Morrissey.

The end seemed surreal considering Messiah was in control for most of the afternoon. Claire Stikeleather (2) and Liz Brennan combined to tally three of the game's first four goals in the second-half to give the Falcons the aforementioned 7-3 lead; nevertheless, Messiah could not make good on their advantage. The Falcons' sloppy play was a large culprit as they turned the ball over 12 times between the second-half and first overtime period.

Alexa Dipeso was again outstanding for Messiah; the Falcons' goalie collected 10 saves, including a few highlight reel stops on close-range and one-on-one attempts.

Stikeleather finished with a team-high three goals, and Brennan added two tallies. Stephanie Athens and Sam Babbitt also tallied for the Falcons.

Loss dropped Messiah to 1-2 on the season, while Dickinson improved to 2-0.

Messiah will next play on Saturday when they host McDaniel.
