Game Recap: Softball |

Powerful Offense Fuels First Wins Of Season

Myrtle Beach, SC - After a disappointing (0-2) start to the 2015 season, the Falcons rebounded Saturday with two commanding wins over Penn State - Harrisburg and Hilbert College. Led by an onslaught of offense and solid pitching from Claressa Mees and Carrie Fix, the Falcons picked up 9-1 and 9-0 wins, respectively, with both victories coming in only six innings of play.

Game One vs. PSU-Harrisburg (0-1)

Following two losses on Friday, the Falcons wasted no time removing the goose egg from their win column. Scoring early and often, the softball team brought home a 9-1 win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday.

The Falcons posted two runs in the first inning on RBI doubles from Becky Notte and Courtney Allen then added another run in the second for the 3-0 lead. Allen delivered again in the third with a lead-off triple and ended up scoring on the play when the Nittany Lions overthrew third. Singles from Nicole Blantz and Amanda Jones and a defensive error added an additional run in the fifth. The Falcons added more fuel to the fire in the sixth, closing things out with singles from Natalie Lamoreaux, Brooke Pompeo, Fix, Notte, and Allen, yet the highlight of the inning was an RBI double from Blantz.

Mees (1-0) picked up the win for the Falcons.

Game Two vs. Hilbert (0-1)

Carrie Fix (1-2) pitched her first collegiate no-hitter in the second of two games on the day, picking up a six-inning, 9-0 win. In additional to a stellar effort from the pitching circle, Fix added to the Falcons' offensive efforts with a single, double, triple and an RBI.

Messiah struck in the first inning as Fix singled then stole two bases. Blantz drove her in later in the inning. The Falcons extended their lead in the second when they posted five runs. Katie Tankred (double, stolen base, and RBI), along with Fix, led the charge for Messiah.

The Falcons return to Pennsylvania next week to play York College on Wednesday. The double header is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
