Carlisle, PA - The Falcons scored 24 runs across 13 innings to sweep a double-header at Dickinson College.
Carrie Fix notched a triple and a home run in the second game to highlight Messiah's dominating day.
Game One - Messiah 11, Dickinson 5The Falcons scored 10 runs through the first four innings on their way to an 11-5 victory in Game One.
Messiah took advantage of some early mistakes by the Red Devils as
Carrie Fix and
Brooke Pompeo both reached base safely thanks to separate errors.
Becky Notte knocked in both runners in with her first of three doubles, then followed it up by stealing third base.
Amanda Jones slapped a ball to second base to bring Notte home, putting the Falcons up 3-0.
The Falcons picked up in the next inning right where they left off when
Emily Quatrale led off with a double.
Nicole Blantz followed with an infield hit to put runnings on first and third, and
Amber Bingaman then grounded out to bring Quatrale home. Shannon Denny then singled to bring Blantz home, and another double from Notte brought the score to 6-0.
Messiah did most of their damage in the fourth as Notte knocked her third double of the game, scoring
Courtney Allen and
Amber Bingaman. Quatrale and Blantz picked up the other two RBI in the inning.
Becky Notte undoubtedly led the charge as she finished 4-4 with three doubles and five RBI's. Five different Falcons collected the remaining five RBI's, highlighted by
Emily Quatrale, who finished 3-4 with a double, and
Shannon Denney who went 2-3 with three runs scored.
Claressa Mees earned the win for Messiah as she went five innings, giving up five hits, three earned, and striking out three along the way.
Game Two – Messiah 13, Dickinson 5Messiah took Game Two against the Red Devils, winning 13-5 in six innings.
The Falcons got off to an identical start as Game Two, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings and pitting the Red Devils in an early deficit.
Carrie Fix started the game with a leadoff home run, her second homer of the season. Soon after
Brooke Pompeo walked and moved to second on a sac bunt and eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch. Now with a runner on third,
Becky Notte hit one back to the Red Devils' pitchers and reached on an error to score the run. Moments later
Amber Bingaman singled Notte home to give Messiah the 3-0 lead.
Dickinson tacked on two runs of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to a home run from Grace Edelson.
In the top of the second and runners on second and third,
Courtney Allen smacked a double in the gap to score Pompeo and Fix. Notte then promptly knocked Allen in for Messiah's sixth run of the game thanks to yet another Red Devil error.
With the lead secure, the Falcons went on to score seven more runs to put Dickinson away for good and sweep the series.
Becky Notte stayed hot finishing 2-4 with two RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Carrie Fix,
Brooke Pompeo, and Notte combined to go 6-11 with four RBIs, as well as scoring seven of the Falcons' 13 runs.
Carrie Fix earned the game two win for the Falcons, pitching four innings of two-run ball, and improving her record to 5-3 in the process.
The sweep brings the Falcons' record to 11-6 on the season, and it gives them their eighth-straight victory. They will next travel to rival Lebanon Valley College tomorrow to take on the Dutchman at 3:30 p.m.
