Grantham, PA - No. 18 Messiah College built an 11-0 lead in the first-half and never looked back in a 16-0 win over Hood College. The Falcons outshot the Blazers 33-3 and held them to just 3-21 on clear attempts.
The win pushed Messiah to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. Hood fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The game was less than 20 minutes old before Messiah built a double-digit lead. Eight different Falcons tallied to build that 10-0 advantage, with both
Madi Brunk and
Ida Ehrhardt each tallying twice.
Michelle Krenzke scored the final goal of the half off a feed from
Claire Stikeleather with 4:55 remaining.
Early in the second-half
Sam Brennan took a pass from Stikeleather and put it through for a 12-0 lead, though it wouldn't be before 13:12 was left that Messiah would score again. Even still, the Falcons dominated possession and territory while the Blazers were unable to build any amount of momentum.
In the end Messiah matched a season-high with 16 goals, with their 22 caused turnovers good for the second-most this season.
Lauren Couch was strong in the cage for Hood as she collected 16 saves. Messiah keepers
Alexa Dipeso and
Ellery Klineyoung split time between the pipes and were mostly untested.
Messiah will next play on Wednesday, Apr. 8 when they travel to Lycoming College for a game at 4:00 p.m
