Falcons Hold On for Close Win Over Royals

Scranton, PA - Messiah held on to win a tough match this afternoon, 5-4, against non-conference opponent University of Scranton. Devin Esch and Michael Kovacs came up huge for the Falcons, as they earned the only two victories in singles play, winning 6-1,6-3 and 6-1,6-1, respectively. Tim Dunn (6-2, 1-6, 10-8), Peter Shuck (6-2, 4-6, 10-8), and Connor Graybeal (1-6, 6-3, 10-6) all battled, but ultimately fell in three sets.
 
Messiah would however sweep doubles play against the Royals, sealing their 5-4 victory. Mike Brookhart and Tim Dunn earned an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles play, with Peter Shuck and Michael Kovacs winning 8-3. Devin Esch and Connor Graybeal rounded out the doubles matches with an 8-4 win.
 
With the win the Falcons improved their record to 4-6 overall and will look to pick up their fourth consecutive victory when they travel to Lycoming College tomorrow, starting at 1:00 p.m.
