Reading, PA - The Falcons got back in the win column with a 11-4 victory over the Crusaders of Alvernia University. Messiah produced eight different goal-scorers during the game and scored six unanswered goals starting at the end of the second quarter, and ending in the third. Messiah improves to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth with the victory.
The Falcons struck first with the first score of the game from a goal by
Will Franken.
Tyler Goglio found Franken for the assist. The Crusaders answered with a goal of their own from Colin Rothweiler to notch the score at one.
Messiah regained the lead when
Drew Pagenkopf found the back of the net and put the Falcons up 2-1 to end the first quarter.
The second quarter was another evenly played quarter with Messiah scoring three goals compared to Alvernia's two. The Falcons tallied the first goal of the quarter with a goal from
Blake Knobloch.
Alvernia responded with two goals within 20 seconds of each other and tied the score at three. The Crusaders' first score of the two came from Benjamin Manning. Twenty second later David Dominik scored and tied the score at three.
Messiah answered with the final two goals of the quarter and took a 5-3 lead heading into halftime.
Andrew Harris found
Will Franken for his second goal of the game and gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
With time dwindling down in the second quarter, long stick midfielder
Chris Ruger scored with 0:19 left and gave the Falcons a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
The Falcons outscored the Crusaders 4-1 in the third quarter, which included a six-goal scoring streak that started from the end of the second quarter and ended in the third.
Scoring for the Falcons in the third quarter were
Blake Knobloch,
Ryan Mayer,
Andrew Harris, and
Will Franken. Knobloch tallied his second goal of the game while
Will Franken collected his third.
Alvernia killed Messiah's scoring streak with a goal by Colin Rothweiler to end the third quarter.
The Falcons finished the game strong with the only two goals of the fourth quarter. Scoring for the Falcons during the final quarter were
Tyler Goglio and
Isaac Zorn.
Statistically, Messiah dominated Alvernia in shots (46-14), face-offs (12-6), and edged the Crusaders in groundballs (30-27). The Falcons will next play this Saturday against Arcadia University in their final regular season game in Grantham, Pennsylvania.
