Drake and Janney Go Yard, Falcons Win Slugfest

Grantham, PA - Grantham, PA - The Falcons scored early and often en route to a 16-10 victory over the Dickinson Red Devils. In the high scoring affair, Derek Drake and Adam Janney each hit their first career home run; Drake, a three-run shot in the fourth and Janney, a two-run jack in the seventh.

The two teams combined for nine errors that resulted in 15 unearned runs.

After falling into an early 2-0 hole after the top of the first, the Falcons wasted no time getting on the board. After two quick outs in the bottom of the first the Falcons kept the inning alive with a Joseph Saufley double. Saufley then came around to score on a Dickinson error before a wild pitch later in the inning tied the game at 2-2.

After a three up, three down top half of the second, the Falcons collected their first lead of the game as they scored three times. Just like the first inning the Falcons scored a runs on a Dickinson error and a wild pitch but added a third on Saufley's second double in as many innings.

After a bit of a rocky start in the first, Falcons' starter Quinton Kuntz settled down and retired the final 13 Red Devil hitters he faced before being removed after the fifth. In total, Kuntz allowed just one hit and two unearned runs while striking out four across five innings. For his effort, Kuntz picked up his first career win.

While Kuntz was shutting down the Red Devils, the Falcons continued to build their lead. After a scoreless third, the Falcons added three in the fourth and five in the sixth.

Kyle Schoen highlighted the three-run fourth with an RBI single to right center to score Saufley. In the bottom of the fifth, Derek Drake connected for a three-run home run to left field scoring Janney and Austin Mellinger. The big fly was Drake's first of his career and gave the Falcons a 12-2 lead after five innings.

Dickinson and Messiah traded single runs in the sixth and three-run innings in the seventh. Adam Janney supplied the excitement in the bottom of the seventh with a first-pitch homer to left center brining home Mellinger. After a Zach Brubaker ground out plated Messiah's final run of the game, the Falcons led the Red Devils 16-6.

While Dickinson closed the gap with three runs in the eighth and a single run in the ninth it wasn't enough as the Falcons earned a 16-10 victory.

The 16 runs scored for Messiah is the most that they have scored in a single game since they put 20 on the board against Susquehanna on Apr. 18, 2012.

The Falcons will look to improve to .500 on the season when they take the field tomorrow afternoon as the Diplomats from Franklin and Marshall travel to Grantham, Pa. First Pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
