Bower Delivers Game Winner as Falcons Beat Eagles

Grantham, PA - In the 65th minute Lindsay Bower ripped a shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the cage and broke a 2-2 tie and gave Messiah a 3-2 victory over the Juniata Eagles. After trailing 2-1 at the half, the Falcons scored two second-half goals to earn their second victory of the year.

The Falcons had plenty of chances to dent the scoreboard first, but after six Falcons shots in the first eight minutes of play the game remained scoreless. On Juniata's first real opportunity in the Falcons' zone they earned a penalty corner. On that corner Allison Groft cleaned up a mess in front of the goal and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Not to be out done, the Falcons earned a penalty corner of their own less than a minute later. The Falcons would also capitalize on their best opportunity of the game when Carissa Gehman found Emily Rubright and she fired a shot from right side that beat the goalie and tied the score.

Two minutes later the Falcons had an excellent opportunity to take the lead. On a breakaway on the left side Gehman tried to go top shelf, but her shot ricocheted off the crossbar and the score remained level.

In the 22nd minute the Eagles earned another penalty corner and took a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles took the 2-1 advantage into the half, but in the 51st minute Carissa Gehman struck a shot that Emily Rubright deflected in off a penalty corner. The goal was Rubright's second of the game and tied the game at 2-2.

With the score tied 2-2, the Falcons and Eagles played 15 scoreless minutes until Lindsay Bower ripped a shot from the top of the circle on the right side that beat the goalie and gave Messiah their first lead of the game with just over four minutes remaining.

The goal was Bower's second of the season and reminiscent of her lone goal from the 2014 season. A year ago, Bower scored in overtime against Juniata to give Messiah a 3-2 victory.

In the final four minutes neither the Falcons nor Eagles scared the goalies and the Falcons came away with a 3-2 victory.

In the victory, Messiah outshot Juniata 19-5 and held the Eagles to just a single shot in the second-half.

With the win the Falcons improve to 2-3 and will next take the field on Saturday when they travel to No. 1 The College of New Jersey. Game time slated for 6:00 p.m.
