Elsaesser Tallies Twice as Falcons Shutout Eagles

Fredericksburg, VA – No. 2 Messiah College got two goals from Nikki Elsaesser in a 3-0 win over Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon. Elsaesser scored the first and third goals as the Falcons improved to 4-0-1.

Elsaesser's first goal came by way of a penalty kick in the 33rd minute after she was taken down in the box by the Eagles' defense. The easy whistle led to her fourth goal of the season and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Less than eight minutes later Messiah doubled their lead off a well-placed pass from Kate Shults. Her chip from the left side of the Falcons' back row went behind the Eagles' defense and to the run of Olivia Snare, and her shot beat keeper Haley Randall far post.

In the 63rd minute Elsaesser was played down the right side and cut into the box for a hard shot at the near post. Her offering caromed off the keeper and went over the goal line for a 3-0 lead.

Messiah finished with a 26-2 edge in shots, 16 of which came in the second-half as they wore down the host Eagles. Randall collected nine saves while Audra Larson made two saves of her own in the shutout.

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday when they play the third of four-straight road games, this one at No. 9 Misericorida at 5:00 p.m.
