Falcons Build Lead, Cruise to Victory

Grantham, PA – The Messiah field hockey team scored six first-half goals en route to a 7-1 victory over the Haverford Fords. A different Falcon scored all seven goals with Kaylor Rosenberry, Kezia Loht, and Emily Schillinger scoring their first career goals.

The Falcons exploded for four goals in the first 12 minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Falcons didn't look back from there tallying two more before the half.

Kaylor Rosenberry connected for the Falcons first goal for the afternoon just 4:31 into the game. Shayna Landis corralled the pass off a penalty corner and found Rosenberry on the right side, who fired a shot that beat Haverford goalie, Lindsay Lopes.

Less than two minutes later Hannah Roland sent a long pass into the circle that found Emily Rubright. Rubright touched it along to Taylor Holt right in front of the cage and she beat the goalie on the left side to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Nine and half minutes into the game, Lindsay Bower found the ball on her stick on the left side of the cage, she ripped a shot that ricocheted off the near post and right to Carissa Gehman. Gehman wasted no time and powered the ball into the back of the cage giving the Falcons their third goal in less than 10 minutes.

After Gehman's goal the Fords tried to regroup with a timeout. Out of the timeout the Falcons connected for their fourth goal of the first-half when Ally Morgret sent a centering pass to the stick of Bower at the top of the circle. Bower took one touch to her right and fired a shot into the back of the cage.

Ten minutes later Moriah Pfautz forced a turnover deep in Fords territory and handed off to Kezia Loht who slipped it through the goalie's legs to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead. The final goal of the half was put in by Emily Schillinger on the right side with 2:26 left in the half. From the left side, Taylor Holt sent a centering pass through the circle to Schillinger and she tapped it in for her first career goal.

At the half the Falcons had a commanding 6-0 lead on the scoreboard while also leading in shots (17-2) and penalty corners (2-1).

The second-half was much more even in all facets of the game. Each team tallied one goal in the final 35 minutes and the Fords actually outshot the Falcons 8-6 in the half.

Nicole Wilkerson scored just four minutes into the half. After a quick restart just outside the circle, Wilkerson carried the ball to her right and fired a shot to the left post that snuck in and gave the Falcons a seven-goal advantage.

As mentioned the Fords did on the board midway through the half off of a penalty corner. The initial pass went to Allison Martin who fired the ball in front of the cage. Sydney Cone popped the pass into the air and Paige Carson knocked it home to bring the score to 7-1.

The Fords had chances across the final 20 minutes to cut further into the deficient, but they could not find the back of the cage and the Falcons won by a 7-1 final.

The seven goals for Messiah matched their season high from a year ago, when they won 7-4 over Stevenson.

Messiah will next take the field when they travel to Collegeville, Pa. on Wednesday to take on No. 7 Ursinus College. Game time slated for 7:00 p.m.
