Lexington, KY – The Messiah women's volleyball team was honored this afternoon by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as the Falcons collected three AVCA Mid-Atlantic Regional awards.
Jane Underman and
Brooke Gallagher were named to the Mid-Atlantic First Team, while
Mary Underman was named Honorable Mention.
Jane Underman and Gallagher are picking up repeat honors as both players were named to the First-Team last season.
Jane Underman was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after picking up the program's first honor last year. She had a strong year tallying 383 kills, good enough for 3.51 kills per set, a .226 hitting percentage, 23 service aces, 178 digs, and 39 blocks. She broke the career kills all-time record this season finishing with 1,511 career kills.
Brooke Gallagher was instrumental in setting up the Falcon offense and played tremendous this year dishing out 1,098 assists and had a 10.17 assists per set average. She had a team-high 50 service aces and recorded 251 digs defensively.
Mary Underman earned her first Mid-Atlantic Regional honor after being named the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. She finished with 276 kills, 2.08 kills per set, and was 13th nationally with a .380 hitting percentage. Defensively Underman was a solid force in the middle with 93 blocks on the year, which places her in the top ten in the Messiah all-time record books.
