Adrian, MI – The Falcons of Messiah College won their second straight game with a 16-9 victory over the Bulldogs of Adrian College Saturday afternoon and improved to 3-4 on the season.
Nine different Falcons secured goals and
Tyler Goglio,
Trey Hanshew,
Chris Bry,
Matthew Franken, and
Ryan Van Bochoven all tallied two goals each. In addition,
Dylan Gillisse led Messiah with three goals which is a career high.
The Falcons took a commanding 7-2 lead after the first half of play with goals from six different players. Messiah got on the scoreboard first when
Isaac Zorn found
Trey Hanshew for his first of two goals in the half.
The Falcons continued their four goal scoring streak when
Isaac Zorn found the back of the net for the third time this season. Leading 2-0,
Dylan Gillisse extended Messiah's lead to 3-0 when he secured his first goal of the year.
The final goal of the four goal scoring streak and the first quarter came from
Matthew Franken and was assisted by
Tyler Goglio. The Bulldogs showed some fight in the second quarter with the opening goal from Michael Turner.
Messiah held a 4-1 lead when
Trey Hanshew captured his second goal of the half from an accurate assist by
Tyler Goglio. Adrian grabbed their second and final goal of the first half with a goal from Doug Boyd.
The Falcons finished the first half strong by scoring the final two goals of the half.
Chris Bry and
Steven Dunn secured the final two goals of the first half and Messiah held a 7-2 lead heading to the third quarter of play.
Once again the Bulldogs started the quarter with first goal from Doug Boyd. However, the Falcons responded with three unanswered goals. Tyler Golgio tallied two of the scores and
Dylan Gillisse secured the other for a 10-3 lead.
Both Messiah and Adrian each scored two goals each and the Falcons took a 12-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Dylan Gillisse and Matthew Franked tallied the final two goals of the third quarter for Messiah.
The fourth and final quarter of play was the most competitive as each team scored four goals each.
Ryan Van Bochoven made his presence felt in the fourth quarter by securing two goals.

Two keys to Messiah's victory was being aggressive offensively and fighting for ground balls. The Falcons dominated the statistical categories of shots (43-24) and ground balls (44-27).
The Falcons will be back in action on Mar. 30 when they take on Susquehanna at 3:00 p.m.
