Baltimore, MD – The Falcons of Messiah College were outmatched by the No. 9 Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University falling by a 17-3 score.
Ohio Wesleyan jumped on Messiah early and had a dominating first quarter by scoring five goals compared to Messiah's zero. Max Tennant was a major contributor to the Battling Bishop's first quarter success tallying four of the five goals. Tennant found the back of the cage six times by the end of regulation.
The Falcons showed some fight to begin the second quarter by scoring back-to-back goals.
Tyler Goglio put the Falcons on the board with a goal from the left wing on an extra man opportunity.
Goglio struck again for Messiah when
Blake Knobloch found him on the left wing and narrowed Ohio Wesleyan's lead to 5-2.
Just when Messiah started to build some momentum, Ohio Wesleyan went on a ten goal scoring streak to make the score out of reach for the Falcons.
Trailing 15-2, Messiah tallied their third goal when
Brady Marburger found
Ryan Van Bochoven for Messiah's third and final goal.
Messiah was only being outshot 21-17 at the end of the first half, but the second half proved to be a different game as Ohio Wesleyan outshot Messiah 24-8. Messiah was also bested in statistical categories such as faceoffs won (10-12) and ground balls (25-38).
Messiah falls to 1-4 with the defeat and will be back in action this Saturday when they host Gwynedd Mercy at 1:00 p.m.
