Grantham, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College had a huge first half that led to a dominant 12-2 victory over the Blazers of Hood College. The Falcons outscored the Blazers 9-1 in the first half and cruised to the conference victory.
Blake Knobloch and
Joseph Franken led Messiah offensively by tallying three goals each.
Messiah used long offensive possessions throughout the game and capitalized off Hood's defensive mistakes.
Justin Bradley was the first Falcons to capture a goal off a perfectly placed shot in the bottom left corner of the cage.
Next,
Joseph Franken,
Luke Hall, and
Blake Knobloch all tallied goals with high velocity shots past the goalkeeper. Hood stayed in the game early when Alex Villegas tallied one of two goals for Hood all game.
The second quarter began with a goal from
Blake Knobloch to increase Messiah's lead to 5-1. The most impressive goal of the game came next when
Cody Rogers used a vicious check to gain possession and advanced the ball to the opposite side of the field for the electrifying score.
Messiah continued to roll through Hood by stringing together a six goal-scoring streak from
Justin Bradley,
Isaac Zorn,
Joseph Franken (2),
Luke Hall, and
Blake Knobloch.
Hood showed some fight with 2:12 remaining in the contest when Alexander Elliot found Grayson Zubradt on the crease for the final score of the game.
Brady Marburger played a huge role in the dominating victory by winning 14 of the total 16 face offs and assisting Messiah in dominating the time of possession.
Other statistical categories that Messiah bested Hood in included shots (56-18), shots on goal (29-12), ground balls (36-24), and committing fewer turnovers (16-20).
Messiah improves to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth conference with the victory. The Falcons will be back in action this Saturday when the host the Pride of Widener University at 1:00 p.m.
