Grantham, PA - The Messiah women's tennis team had little trouble defeating the Alvernia University Crusaders on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons survived a few close matches to earn the 9-0 shutout.
Early on in doubles play, the duos of
Ashli Livermore/
Sydney Schandel and
Kaitlyn Russell/
Carly Dove both had close matches, but each got the win at 8-5.
Emily Doron and
Meagan Scala cruised to the 8-3 victory.
The number four, five, and six spots in singles each ended closely, with
Sydney Schandel battling back from an early deficit to win 2-6, 6-1, 10-3,
Emily Doron holding off an early push from opponent Xena Sperrazza to win 7-5, 6-2, and
Meagan Scala closing out singles with the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Ashli Livermore,
Kaitlyn Russell, and
Carly Dove each had no trouble in their victories.
The Falcons improve to 5-5 on the season with today's win, and will next compete at Hood College on Tuesday afternoon.
