Grantham, PA – Messiah men's tennis earned a hard-fought victory against the Stevenson University Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons' tight 6-3 win clinched the number one seed in the MAC Commonwealth tournament, which will start early next week.
The Falcons took only the number three match in doubles competition, with the duo of
Dustin Innerst/
Blake Ross winning by a score of 9-7. The duos of
Tim Dunn/
Connor Graybeal (3-8) and
Devin Esch/
Austin Warren (5-8) each fell.
The Falcons took over the match in singles play, winning four out of five matches.
Tim Dunn (6-2, 2-6, 7-5),
Devin Esch (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) each earned their victories in three sets, while
Connor Graybeal (6-1, 6-4) and
Blake Ross (6-2, 6-3) earned theirs in two. The Falcons only singles loss came in the number four spot, where
Dustin Innerst fell 6-4, 6-3, 10-3.
Today's victory earned the Falcons the number one seed in the MAC Commonwealth tournament, pitting them against Lebanon Valley (6-10-1, 3-3-1) on Wednesday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. The Falcons will host the Dutchmen as the number one seed.
