Williamsport, PA – The No. 18 Messiah College Falcons (21-2, 6-0) swept Lycoming College (11-12, 1-7) Wednesday afternoon in mid-week MAC Commonwealth action. In a tight opening game, the Falcons bested the Warriors 2-1 then turned things around in Game Two, collecting 14 hits for the 11-2 victory.

Brooke Pompeo had another banner performance, picking up her 150
th career hit in Game Two. She accumulated five total hits in the double header, bringing her career total to 153.
Game One – Messiah 2, Lycoming 1
Sydney Boreman hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and
Courtney Allen tossed seven impressive frames in the 2-1 win. Allen allowed just three hits and a single earned run to move to 11-0 this season.
The Falcons struggled at the plate in the early innings, managing just two hits through four innings of play. They finally broke through in the fifth, stringing together four hits and scoring two runs.
Amber Bingaman got things going with a single to left field then was followed by Boreman's first career homerun. The Falcons added two more hits in the frame, but were unable to push additional runs across the plate.

Lycoming left two runners on base in the bottom of the first, but were unable to manage much offense through the next five innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that the Warriors made their move.

Lycoming scored their lone run in their final at-bat on a leadoff double and an RBI single.
Becky Notte ended any additional threat of scoring by throwing out Kelcie Crabb in an attempted steal of second base to close out the game.

Seven different Falcons picked up hits in the victory with Boreman picking up both RBI.

Game Two - Messiah 11, Lycoming 2
The Falcons fell behind 2-1 after just two innings in the second game, then poured it on late, scoring two in the fourth, three in the fifth, then added five more in the seventh. They amassed fourteen hits en route to a commanding 11-2 victory.
Carrie Fix (3.2 innings) and
Madelyn Yannetti (3.1 innings) tag-teamed from the mound with Yannetti (3-1) picking up the win.Â
Becky Notte put the Falcons on the board in the first inning with an RBI double that scored Pompeo. Pompeo reached on a single through the right side for her aforementioned 150
th career hit.

The Warriors responded in the bottom of the frame to draw even after posting one run on two hits. Ashley Schoenstadt's leadoff triple and Elisa Novak's single got the job done for Lycoming. The bottom of the line up added another run in the next inning, giving the Warriors the momentary 2-1 lead.

The Falcons erased their slight deficit in the top of the fourth, collecting just one hit, but took advantage of two walks and a Warrior error to score two runs and take the 3-2 lead.

Messiah tacked on three more runs in the fifth, extending their lead to 6-2. Pompeo scored the first run when she tripled to right field then made her way home following a throwing error by the right fielder. Another error, this time by the center fielder, resulted in another Falcon run with the final tally coming off the bat of
Amber Bingaman.

Lycoming was on the verge of scoring in the fourth innings but reliever
Madelyn Yannetti kept the Warriors at bay. Following a walk and a single, Yannetti replaced Fix on the mound and inherited two runners on with two outs. Yannetti struck out the Warriors' leadoff batter, Schoenstadt, to end the frame.

The Warriors pressed the Falcons in the sixth, but Yannetti came through once again. Following a leadoff walk and a single, Yannetti threw a wild pitch, which moved runners into scoring position. Dispite the miscue, Yannetti buckled down and retired the next three batters with a pop up and two groundouts.

The pressure invigorated the Falcons, leading them to hit through the lineup and add five more runs to their tally in the top of the seventh.
Amanda Jones started the frame and ended it with singles then was joined by
Kyla Caruso (single), Fix (double), Pompeo (double), and Allen (single) who each picked up hits in the inning.

With the 11-2 lead, Yannetti closed out the game with ease, getting three straight outs with the final out coming off a strikeout. In 3.1 innings of work, Yannetti allowed just one hit, walked one, and struck out two.

Eight different Falcons picked up hits in the victory, with Pompeo (4-for-5), Notte (3-for-5), and Jones (2-for-4) leading the way. Pompeo was a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle, while Notte is just one hit away from reaching 200 career hits.

The Falcons look to add to their record books and avenge last year's post-season tournament exit when they host the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
