2016 NFCA All-Region Teams
Louisville, KY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced this week more than 350 players selected for the 2016 Division III All-Region softball teams. Messiah College received five honors:
Courtney Allen,
Carrie Fix,
Becky Notte, and
Erin Cressman were named First Team for the East Region, and
Amanda Jones was named Second Team.
Â
All but Cressman are repeat selections from last season, with Allen and Notte earning the All-Region honors for the third and fourth time in their careers, respectively.
Â
Notte's selection to the First Team came via an at-large choice. The Falcons' backstop is second on the team with a .424 batting average and she leads Messiah with 67 hits. Notte led all MAC Commonwealth catchers in every major offensive category, and this year she set Messiah program records with 51 career doubles and 140 career RBI. Notte also became just the third player in program history to eclipse 200 hits, and she is just three hits shy of tying the program record of 231.
Â
Allen, notably, was named First Team as a pitcher after collecting prior All-Region honors primarily due to her work as centerfielder. This season she took over Messiah's No. 1 spot from the circle and has gone 24-0 with a 1.57 over 164.2 innings. She's collected 143 strikeouts and is holding opponents to just .216 at the plate. She was recently named the MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year.
Â
Carrie Fix picked up her second-straight All-Region honor after an impressive sophomore season that includes a .381 batting average, program single-season record 19 doubles, team-leading 93 total bases. Fix is slugging an even .600 and also leads the team with 43 runs scored.
Â
Erin Cressman picked up the All-Region honor in her first season with Messiah. She leads the team with 11 home runs and 48 RBI—both single-season records for the Falcons. She also leads the team with a .742 slugging percentage and is third on the team with a .383 batting average. This past weekend at the opening Regionals in Newport News, Va. she batted 6-10 (.600) with a home run and four RBI.
Â
Amanda Jones, already a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth player entering the season, has found a way to breakout in her third year with the program. She leads the team with a .445 batting average and is second on the team in hits (61), RBI (36), total bases (85), slugging (.620), and on-base percentage (.469). This past weekend at the opening Regionals she batted 5-10 (.500) with two doubles and four RBI.
Â
This weekend Messiah will host Haverford College in the Division III Super Regional. Game One is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, with as many as two games to follow on Saturday afternoon.
