5/2/2016 3:00:00 PM

Grantham, PA – Messiah College women's tennis has secured home court advantage throughout the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, with the ultimate hopes of bringing home the conference title. Semifinal matches will take place on Tuesday, May 3 at Messiah and Alvernia, with the championship taking place at the highest remaing seed on Saturday, May 7.

See below for a quick preview of the tourney.

Scouting the No. 1 Messiah College Falcons (10-5, 7-0)
6628The Falcons are riding a late season surge that has seen them win the last seven matches of the regular season, including shutouts of opponents in five matches. Even more appropriate to consider is that Messiah has gone undefeated in conference play, with their closest match being an 8-1 win over Arcadia. The team is lead by number one player Ashli Livermore, who has not lost a match (in both singles and doubles) this season. Messiah is looking for their first outright MAC Commonwealth title in program history, and they'll start with a semifinal match against Lebanon Valley on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Scouting the No. 2 Alvernia University Crusaders (10-4, 6-1)
7476The Crusaders won a close 5-4 match against Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon to lock up the No. 2 seed in the Tournament. Throughout the year, Alvernia has seen success against conference foes, as they have gone 6-1 in those matches. The performances of Cassandra Noray (13-6 overall), Amanda Phillips (13-6 overall), and Emily Thek (15-4 overall) are what have lead the Crusaders in those matches with their 6-1 records in conference play. Alvernia will begin the defense of their 2015 MAC Commonwealth title when they host Hood on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders and Blazers met back on Apr. 9, when Alvernia took a decisive 6-3 victory.
Scouting the No. 3 Hood College Blazers  (9-8, 5-2)
164Hood is coming off of an important 9-0 victory against Arcadia on Saturday, which locked up their No. 3 seed. Bianca Hoch has gone 7-2 in both singles and doubles (with doubles partner Sophie Smith) in the last ten matches to direct the Blazers to their postseason campaign. Head coach Emily Maerz, in her second season at the helm, will look to lead the Blazers to the program's first MAC Commonwealth Championship when they face off against Alvernia on Tuesday in Reading.
Scouting the No. 4 Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (7-10, 4-3)
6626The Dutchmen's women have seen significant success over the past few years, but have not brought the banner home since the 2009 season. Every year since then they have finished the season as Runner-Up, losing the championship matches by scores of 0-5, 2-5, 3-5, 1-5, 3-5, and 1-5. Lebanon Valley has gone 3-3 on the road this season, but will have to overcome that .500 record in the postseason as they will be on the road throughout the tournament. They will begin their quest for the championship on Tuesday when they travel to Grantham to take on the Falcons.
