Falcons Edged by Royals in Season Opener

Grantham, PA – The Falcons of Messiah College were edged by the Royals of Scranton University 5-4 in their season opener at home Saturday afternoon. Julia Frattaroli and Nastashia DeNunzio defeated Kelly Hopkins and Kaitlyn Russell in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spot to help seal the victory for Scranton University.
 
Sydney Schandel, Meagan Scala, and Robin Schwarzmann performed well for the Falcons and earned victories in singles play.
 
Messiah dropped two of three doubles matches to the Royals. The duo of Hopkins and Schandel lost a close 8-6 match in No. 1 doubles play while Scala and Schwarzmann dropped the No. 3 match 8-1. The lone doubles victory came from Russell and Carly Dove in the No. 2 spot winning 8-3.
 
The Falcons fall to 0-1 on the season and will be back in action when they travel to Gettysburg Wednesay Sept. 21 with a match time of 4:00 p.m.
