Falcons Score Often Amid Rainfall on Shoemaker

Grantham, PA – Messiah College scored four goals in the first-half and both Marisa Weaver and Julia Kyne tallied twice as the Falcons defeated Dickinson College 9-0 on Wednesday evening. The win moved the No. 15 Falcons to 6-2 on the season while Dickinson fell to 4-3-2.

With the rain moving in and out throughout the match, Messiah outshot the Red Devils 30-0. They established territory early and in the 14th minute got a break for the first goal of the game. Marisa Weaver turned in on the left side of the box and approached post before putting a pass across the box. Dickinson's weak side defender went to clear the ball from space but mistakenly deflected it backwards and over the goal line.

The own goal put Messiah in front, and they added three more scores before halftime. In the 18th minute Weaver made another great turn to approach the goal, and her pass back for Olivia Snare was fired on frame. Amanda Masterson made a great save on the initial shot, but the ball came loose for another attempt from Snare onto the open net.

Less than seven minutes later a corner serve from Weaver went to the far post for Megan Mansfield, and her brilliant leaping header put the Falcons up 3-0. Mansfield then set-up the Falcons' fourth score in the 39th minute when she laid a pass off for Julia Kyne's rip from 23 yards out in the midfield; Kyne's hard strike was nicked by Masterson, but it was too heavy for her to stop.

Just minutes into the second-half the Falcons bolstered their lead, and it came by way of some historic and noteworthy play of Weaver. In the 49th minute Snare took a shot from the left side that was saved by Masterson, but Weaver was there to knock it in from 15 yards out. Just 24 seconds Weaver tallied again, this time when she was played into the box for a quick strike on the left side. The 24-second difference tied Weaver for the program record for consecutive goals by a single player, a feat first accomplished by Annie Futato on Sept. 7, 2004—also against Dickinson.

Weaver's goals also gave her a tally in four-straight games.

The Falcons' final three goals came from Kyne, Christine Levesque, and Ellie Lengacher. Kyne's second goal of the game was thanks to an impressive turn and strike from the right corner of the box in the 69th minute.

As mentioned, the Falcons outshot Dickinson 30-0, and they also finished with a 4-0 edge in corners.

Messiah will next take the field this Saturday when they open MAC Commonwealth play at Lebanon Valley. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
