READING, Pa. - The Messiah women's volleyball team traveled to Albright College for a conference match and won 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14).
Mary Underman led the team with 14 kills, a .619 attack percentage, and tallied six blocks, while
Amanda Dahlman recorded 11 digs. Offense was spread out this evening and the Falcons played well defensivley finishing with 11 total team blocks. They also recorded 10 team service aces.
Messiah jumped to an early 6-1 lead which included two blocks by
Mary Underman and
Braedyn Gallagher and not long after Underman contributed three kills to give the Falcons a comfortable 11-3 cushion. Albright went on a scoring run to cut the advantage 14-10 but Messiah responded with three-straight points to widen the gap 17-10. The Falcons held on to that lead the remainder of the set en route to the 25-15 victory.
The second set was very similar to the first with the Falcons getting out to an early lead scoring the first five points off kills by
Payton Manwaring,
Lanae Hunsberger, a service ace from
Katie Wilcox, and two Lion errors. Later a kill by Gallagher and service ace from
Heston Cowoski extended Messiah's advantage to 10-4. The Falcons kept up the domination leading by as much as ten at one point and the Lions didn't have a strong answer to the overpowering offense. Messiah went on to win set two 25-16.
The Falcons kept the domination going in the third and final set tallying 16 kills and recorded a .394 attack percentage. With the scored tied at three two kills by Underman, an ace by
Amanda Dahlman, and two Albright errors gave Messiah a 7-3 lead. Later Messiah scored four-straight points off kills by Underman,
Jennifer Rusling, and a block by Braedyn Gallagher and Underman to take an 11-5 advantage. With a nice seven-point cushion,
Ellen Musselman tallied a kill and a block, while Lanae Hunsberger added a kill to push the lead to double digits 19-9. From then on out the Falcons stayed in control leading to a 25-14 win and 3-0 sweep in the match.
The win improves Messiah to 14-14 overall and 5-2 in the MAC Commonwealth. They are back at home this Thursday Oct. 26 for a match against Lebanon Valley at 7:00 p.m.
