Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Messiah's Fast Start, Hot Shooting Supports Lopsided Win

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Messiah men's basketball scored 49 first-half points and hit a season-high 11 three-pointers in a lopsided 76-47 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon. Matt Glogowski led all scorers with 15 points, and Nate Eberle (12) and Coline Sareyka (11) joined in double-figures.

The win moved Messiah to 3-2 on the season.

Fly Fast
Messiah wasted no time in building a lead against the Bobcats, as Neil Murren opened the game with a three-pointer on the Falcons' first possession. After a quick defensive stop Colin Sareyka hit a pullup jumper for a 5-0 lead, and two possessions later Sareyka hit a long three to make it 8-0 and force an early timeout.

Less than four minutes in Nate Eberle hit the Falcons' third shot from downtown, giving them a 13-8 lead, and with just under 12 minutes to play Willie Hope got in on the action with a three in transition that put Messiah up 21-10.

The Falcons' hot shooting helped them finish 18-35 (51.4%) from the field in the first-half, including 8-16 from beyond the arc. Messiah also turned the ball over just twice in the first period.

Never in Doubt
Messiah led 49-23 at the break, and they led by 20-plus points for all but one possession in the second-half. They also hit three of their first five attempts from deep in the last period, giving them 11 makes on their first 21 attempts in the game. Messiah's first 30-point lead came on back-to-back three's from Matt Glogowski atop the key which, at the time, made it 67-36.

In the Box
Glogowski's 15 points set a new season-high, and it was his third-straight game hitting in double-figures. Messiah finished with a 39-35 advantage in rebounds, and they also turned it over just 10 times while forcing the Bobcats in 18 turnovers of their own. The clean play by Messiah helped them to a 15-4 edge in points off turnovers.

As mentioned, Messiah received 35 points off the bench, with Glogowski leading the way and Kyle Krout (6), Willie Hope (5), and Will Young IV (5) pacing additional other reserves who appeared in the game. Young provided the game's loudest highlight with a one-handed dunk in transition as he was fouled.

Up Next
The Falcons next play on Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they travel to Lycoming to open MAC Commonwealth play. The Warriors are 4-0 heading into a game on Sunday, and they've scored 89-plus points in each game thus far.
