Fix and Cressman Selected for NFCA Player of the Year Watch List

Louisville, KY – Messiah College junior Carrie Fix and sophomore Erin Cressman were selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as top 50 players to watch for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Player of the Year award on Friday morning. Messiah is one of nine schools with multiple players chosen for the watch list.
 
Fix put together a great sophomore campaign with Messiah in 2016 as she recorded 67 hits, 30 RBI's, 21 doubles, a .568 slugging percentage, and finished with a batting average of .362. As part of her utility/pitcher role, she carried a 2.86 ERA across 80.2 innings, earning nine wins on the season. On the mound through the Falcon's first six games of the year, Fix is 2-1 with a 0.71 ERA, eight strikeouts, and an opposing batting average of .123. At the dish, she is third on the team with six hits and four runs scored, as well as holding a .316 batting average and a .435 on-base percentage.
 
Cressman put together a very impressive first year with Messiah in 2016 finishing first on the team in home runs (12), slugging percentage (.695), and RBI's (54). She recorded 55 hits, eight doubles, and carried a .364 batting average. In the field Cressman recorded 257 putouts and boasted a .985 fielding percentage. Through six games this season, she leads the team with a .556 batting average, 10 hits, three doubles, six RBI, 16 total bases, a .889 slugging percentage, and a .610 on-base percentage. Cressman also leads the team on the defensive side, anchoring the hot corner with 24 putouts and one assist without an error.
 
Both Fix and Cressman earned MAC Commonwealth Second Team honors and were selected to the NFCA All-East Region First Team in 2016.
 
The 50 players listed were identified as part of a collaborate effort between the NFCA's NCAA Division III head coaches and the All-America committees. Throughout the season the list will be cut down to 25 players, then 10 players, and eventually three players who will vie for the award.
